The Cat and the Moon was established by jewellery designer Martina Hamilton in 1989. The shop is named after an evocative 1924 play and poem by W. B. Yeats whose great works are synonymous with the Sligo region of Ireland.

For over 30 years The Cat and the Moon and Martina have championed individual small enterprise craft makers of Ireland, like herself. In so doing The Cat and the Moon has earned a reputation as one of Ireland's most distinctive and unique retail outlets.
