The creative heads behind Ogham Wishes are very much a family orientated team headed up by Ethel Kelly. An award-winning company Ogham Wishes have been in business for over 20 years, with their artisan workshop is based in a small village called Knockcroghery, on the site of an old claypipe factory in County Roscommon, Ireland.
Ogham Wishes creates each individual piece of artwork using the Ogham writing, the earliest know form of writing in Ireland. This unique ancient script was originally inscribed on standing stone and in numerous sacred places across Irelands rural landscape dating back over 3000 years. The writing consists of 20 linear characters which are read from the bottom to the top. Whilst unique to Ireland, Ogham writing has a universal appeal and is sought worldwide. The Ogham Wishes framed artwork range is available at The Cat and The Moon in Sligo, each piece is is created by hand by the team at Ogham Wishes using handmade paper which is in turn painted by hand with each piece of script. Each Ogham Wishes Frame has a text of the reverse explaining the history and culture behind the Ogham script with Gaelic and English translations.
