About the Artist

As Brid and Ambrose describe themselves "we are not just turning wood, we are passionate wood turners.

They are of course craft makers of celebrated and sought after contemporary designs, of one-off pieces and unique production items. But hand in glove with that they are also teachers, educators in both the craft and philosophy of modern woodturning; demonstrators who showcase and introduce the art of woodturning to a variety of audiences; authors who write about the woodturning field, about it's traditions and innovations; and finally they are life long students who see themselves continually learning from other established masters of Woodturning who have come to their workshop.

Each of these activities reinforces the others, and all lead to Ambrose and Brid's continuing search for knowledge, not only within woodturning but within the decorative arts field as a whole.

"Our philosophy is not to simply ask how, but to ask WHY?. Once you know the why, you can always figure out the how."

They say their approach is best summed up by the famous insight from W.B. Yeats: “Education is not filling a pail, but lighting a fire”. Of course any quote by W B Yeats goes down very well in Sligo - Yeats Country -and here in The Cat and The Moon, where we're named after one of his great plays and poems.
