Sliogán, the Irish word for shell, and Croí, meaning heart, come together in the name Croí Sliogán - “the shell’s heart core.”

Sligo, where Martina has lived all her life, translates as “the Shelly Place.” It's rugged coastline and wild Atlantic landscape were deeply loved by the poet W.B. Yeats, who, from the grey pavements of London, wrote of Sligo as “the deep heart’s core” in his iconic poem The Lake Isle of Innisfree.

This sense of place, poetry, and belonging became the inspiration for the Croí Sliogán collection.

Crafted in hallmarked sterling silver, the flowing shell form holds a quiet secret, nestled within its curves lies the shape of a heart.

About the Artist

Jewellery designer, artist and founder of The Cat & The Moon, Martina Hamilton has been creating award-winning collections from her Sligo studio for over thirty years. Her work is inspired by the wild beauty of Ireland’s northwest coast—shaped by light, landscape and a deep sense of place.

Every design begins with her connection to the landscape. The movement of the tide, the texture of stone, the shifting light—all find quiet expression in her jewellery, handcrafted in precious metals and made to be worn, cherished and passed on.
