Hallmarked Sterling Silver Cufflinks inspired by Ireland's Pre-Christian Heritage

'I am extremely proud that this Newgrange collection remains so popular and enduring. These ancient triskle inspired pieces were the very first ones I created as a jewellery maker, having finished my degree in sculpture over 30 years ago.

I will never forget, as a sculpture student, visiting Ireland's 5000 year old megalithic sites and encountering the motifs and carvings on the stones, realizing in that moment how deep and ancient and profoundly enduring the culture is that informs and sustains me as a person, as a maker and designer .

I think discovering and allowing the rugged texture and natural luster of the metal to speak for itself, married to the simplicity of the ancient motif under pinned the possibilities and my approach to working in precious metals since. I always like to imagine my personal discovery of these qualities in precious metals must have shared something in common with the personal experiences of my forebears working in stone and then in metals throughout Ireland's many millennia.

That this collection has remained so popular throughout my career is of course a source of real pride for me about my work as an emerging designer '- Martina Hamilton

About the Artist

Jewellery designer, artist and founder of The Cat & The Moon, Martina Hamilton has been creating award-winning collections from her Sligo studio for over thirty years. Her work is inspired by the wild beauty of Ireland’s northwest coast—shaped by light, landscape and a deep sense of place.

Every design begins with her connection to the landscape. The movement of the tide, the texture of stone, the shifting light—all find quiet expression in her jewellery, handcrafted in precious metals and made to be worn, cherished and passed on.
