A littering of fine porcelain hand moulded and imprinted shells reaches out from the tile surface. All are glazed in warm blue.

Housed in a solid wood frame, the 'shelly river' is an ode to Sharlene Kemple's home county of Sligo, a name that literally means 'Shelly River' or 'Abounding in Shells'.

About the Artist

Sharlene Kemple Ceramics is a studio built on a deep respect for tradition, craftsmanship, and the expressive potential of clay. Founded by ceramic artist Sharlene Kemple, the brand reflects a lifelong fascination with the tactile connection between hand, material, and form. Her work celebrates the beauty of Irish nature with delicate hand painted three dimensional porcelain

Rooted in a heritage of handcraft and storytelling, Sharlene's journey began by growing up fifty meters from the shoreline and surrounded with a plethora of beaches in Co. Sligo. Summer days were filled with sand and shells and winter walks on the beaches and woodlands shaped what would become a grá for the little things that make life beautiful. Drawing inspiration from this environment, she developed a practice that honors the slow, deliberate methods of traditional ceramic art while incorporating contemporary influences. Her designs often echo natural forms- delicate beauty, kinetic energy, and organic textures, mirroring the landscapes that shaped her early creative sensibility.

This deep sense of place and heritage is central to her ceramics. Each piece embodies a connection to the past, techniques passed through generations and a reverence for the imperfect beauty of handmade work as well as the magic that comes from Irish traditions and folklore.
